Winter Mulching of Japanese Knotweed Stems

Winter mulching works carried out to encourage Japanese Knotweed regrowth ahead of treatment later in the growing season.

This type of preparation can form part of a wider invasive weed management plan, helping make future treatment more effective by encouraging stronger, more visible regrowth when conditions are better suited to herbicide application.

The work requires careful handling and good biosecurity practice to reduce the risk of spreading Japanese Knotweed material across the site or onto other projects.

What the project involved

Oliver Brown Ltd carried out winter mulching of Japanese Knotweed stems as part of planned invasive weed management works.

The aim was to prepare the affected area for follow-up treatment during the active growing season, when the plant is better able to absorb treatment and long-term control measures can be applied more effectively.
