Project category: Invasive Weed Solutions

Client / contractor: Highways England through GVA

Project overview

Oliver Brown Ltd carried out controlled excavation through Japanese Knotweed affected ground, with biosecurity measures in place to reduce the risk of cross contamination and support safe continuation of site works.

What the work involved

The works included excavation in Japanese Knotweed affected areas, careful management of contaminated material and protection around existing infrastructure. Ducting was wrapped in root barrier to protect it from potential infestation.

Why it mattered

Japanese Knotweed can create serious issues when contaminated soils are disturbed without the right controls. On this project, biosecurity was essential to prevent the spread of rhizomes on buckets, tracks and other plant, while allowing works to continue in a controlled way.
